Grapevine, Texas - Vineyards, Winerys and Antiques - Oh my!

Every chance I get I like to get in the car and drive to some of the fun small towns in Texas.  One town I spent some time in last week was Grapevine, Texas.  It's located between Dallas and Fort Worth, and has the feeling of a close knit, interesting little town.

There are vineyards and winerys, antique stores, and charming little wine shops. It's a little different here than some of the vineyards in North Texas and the Texas Hill Country.  One particular vineyard is right on the access road of a major highway.  Above is the cropped picture - below is the original where you can see the road signs. It caught me by surprise when my GPS told me to "turn here"! All other vineyards I've visited have been off in the country, on many acres. This one was definitely different.

This is another small vineyard and wine tasting room just a block off Main St. - just lovely! A gorgeous outdoor patio area and exquisite wines!

And this stop was probably my favorite stop - a beautifully, elegant wine shop with all the wine bottles labeled as to type, flavors to expect, and what foods they compliment. Such a nice touch for some of us who are not wine experts!

A wonderfully relaxing day, with the added bonus of taking home a few great new wines!

Canton, Texas and First Monday Trade Days.

If you ever get excited about estate sales, auctions, or garage sales, you would be in Heaven at the Canton 1st Monday Trade Days.  Acres and acres of just plain good stuff.  So much good stuff in fact, you really need more than 1 day to see it all!

Last weekend was 1st Monday, and I couldn't wait to get there.  Canton is about an hour drive east of Dallas.  It's about 3 hours from where I live so we get an early start.  I always feel like a kid going on vacation - you know what I mean - load up the cooler, throw in sunscreen and some snacks, and turn up the radio!

There are so many different things to see I'm always in awe of how creative everyone is.  There were hand carved swans and geese - dozens of them.

Sunflowers, butterflies, and everything else you can imagine for your garden.

Vintage glass and dinnerware.

There are so many great antiques, I regretted not bringing a trailer. When we left, our SUV was filled full of good stuff - now the issue is where to put it all!  If you're planning a trip to Texas, try to allow a day or two for Canton.  The next Trade Day dates are June 2, 2011 thru June 5, 2011.  See you there!
